I'm Dave and I am trying to build a search engine .. not code it .. because I'm mot a coder, but build it as I would a business.
I'm sure to be asking lots of dumb questions. |

Hello masidini,
Yes, I remember our conversations. My work is not going so well, primarily because I am not a programmer.
I'm having all sorts of problems finding anyone to help me for less than big $$$, even for installing open source on my server.
I think people sometimes confuse "reasonable price" with "free". One recent suggestion went like, "Well, I'm very busy and could possibly get you ann application in about 3 months for around 5 figures.":)
I would like to try Combine/Zebra, as Combine is a focused crawler, does some of the indexing and is open source.
But realistically, unless I can hire someone to do some setup and configuration, I will get nowhere. However, I'm in for the long run.
I have some good marketing plans, but they are useless without the platform on which to deploy them.
How is you own work going?

Hi,
My own work is going very slow. I have the basic crawler setup going - a modified version of the larbin crawler (written in c++). I haven't heard of Combine before, but will have a look at it.
My day job has been very busy for the last two months, hence the lack of progress. Plus I feel I've gone off the boil a little and need to re-motivate myself.
Good luck with your project and keep us posted,
Simon
